Oakley Takes Over The Movies

Actor Denzel Washington wears Oakley Inmate sunglasses in the movie The Book of Eli, where he is a lone hero in an apocalyptic world, protecting a sacred book. The Oakley Inmate was introduced in 2008, and as most Oakley's consists of only the most high-tech materials and lenses, they create one of the most lightweight, clear and protective pair of specs on the market. Part of the Oakley Lifestyle collection, it's a trendy frame that is ideal for sports or casual wear...or for an active career in an apocalyptic world.

The sunglasses that John Travolta wears in the movie The Taking of Pelham 123 are Oakley Square Wire sunglasses. The futuristic looking Oakley sunglasses contain a audio visual presentation of the mission. Unfortunately the glasses have a self-desctruction mechanism, so Tom throws them away.

Geek Chic

Long gone are the days when glasses were associated with nerds. Everywhere we turn, people can be seen wearing thick-rimmed, oversized, plastic geek-style glasses. The stigma historically associated with wearing glasses has now disappeared, and glasses are becoming more acceptable than they have ever been. Madonna, our favorite style icon is often spotted wearing the latest in Buddy Holly style glasses and Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes is following her mum’s lead by donning the same specs. On the streets of LA, young Hollywood actresses, Kirsten Dunst and Ashley Olsen make these overbearing specs look sexy. Perhaps the ever so popular Harry Potter inspired the latest fashion trend? The media always plays an important part in changing trends and fashion designers like Michael Kors and Balenciaga have been featuring models wearing huge square glasses on the catwalk. Over the last couple of years, there has been a huge influx of catwalk models sporting the new trend and fashion magazines like GQ, Vogue and Elle have also been filled with models wearing Prada, Tom Ford and Oliver Peoples’ geek-style glasses. It doesn’t matter if they are round or square, as long as they are outrageously oversize, they are in. Thankfully, for those who used to get teased as a kid for wearing glasses, can now get their revenge by wearing the hippest specs of them all.

Paris Hilton in Dsquared2

Since acquiring effortless world fame the socialite has put her status to good use by building up an empire comprised of self-entitled perfumes, accessories, hair extensions, nightclubs, and has even gone as far as to launch her very own clothing line for dogs! The one thing that isn’t laughable about the persona of one of the world’s most famous blondes is her sense of style. Paris Hilton is a living breathing clothes horse with a stellar power that causes everything she wears to turn to designer gold, which includes Dsquared’s 0015, taken from the brand’s debut 2009 eyewear collection. Many have already said that the launch of the label’s first ever eyewear collection couldn’t have come at a worse time, considering the world’s current economic crisis, however that hasn’t prevented our customers and numerous celebs from clambering to get their manicured mits on what’s fast become this summer’s must-have accessory. To us, the so far promising sales of Dsquared eyewear, in what has been called the toughest economic crisis since the Great Depression, proves just how well the Dsquared sunglasses are being perceived by the fashion public.

Kimi Raikkonen for TAG Heuer

TAG Heuer - a brand best known for its luxury watches - has jumped in the eyewear market and teamed up with Kimi to create a special edition line of sunglasses designed by the F1 champ himself. Kimi's TAG Heuer Speedway sunglasses were designed by Kimi for his own personal use and are constructed with a titanium-alloy frame and shock-resistant, scratch-resistant polycarbonate lenses that are optionally polarized to keep away unwanted glare. Black or red elastomere tips at the end are emblazoned with the "Speedway" logo and Kimi's name appears on both the arms and the lens corner. Of course, the glasses also offer full UV-A and UV-B protection and are lightweight and comfortable. TAG Heuer says it is only offering the glasses in limited quantities and for a limited time, so if these appeal to you, acting fast will be your best bet. Though, if you're a Lewis fan, we probably wouldn't bother.

New Oakley Jawbone

Oakley released its anticipated Jawbone sunglasses worldwide to coincide with their debut on riders at the 2009 Tour de France.
Oakley devised a new design that includes original frame architecture for its newest line of sunglasses targeted at sports enthusiasts.
“Jawbone is a milestone in technology, a true breakthrough that provides athletes with an invaluable performance tool,” said Colin Baden, president of Oakley.
The company sponsors many professional athletes including several cyclists. Lance Armstrong, 7-time champion of the Tour de France, is taking advantage of the new Jawbone in this year’s race. “This is exactly what I expect from Oakley — more than just a new benchmark,” said Armstrong. “Jawbone gives me the performance, fit and styling I have come to expect from Oakley for over 20 years now. The simple lens changing lets me match my vision to racing conditions with ease.” Oakley has also released a LIVESTRONG special edition of Jawbone, characterized by the organization’s trademark yellow and black colors, to aid the Lance Armstrong Foundation and its ongoing mission to inspire and empower people affected by cancer.
Oakley riders George Hincapie, Mark Cavendish, Oscar Pereiro, Amael Moinard and Thor Hushovd are sporting new Jawbones at the Tour de France in various color combinations crafted specifically to suit the riders’ tastes. Beginning in September 2009, Oakley plans to introduce a program that will allow customers to create their own color combinations for the sunglasses’ frames and stem sleeves.
The Oakley Jawbone utilizes Switchlock technology to allow easy switching of the lenses to adapt to any sports environment. The nose piece flips up, the jawbone flips down, and the lens slides out with minimal handling. The glasses come with interchangeable lenses available in several shapes and a spectrum of colors.
A new lens suspension system means they virtually float around the orbital space reducing stress and giving crisp optical clarity. The lenses are polarized with 100% UV protection and a hydrophobic coating that repels rain and sweat and prevents streaking on the lenses. They also employ Oakley’s signature High Definition Optics for unbeatable clarity at all angles of vision.
Interchangeable nose piece sizes and specially-crafted components that increase grip with sweat ensure a comfortable fit.
George Hincapie, U.S. pro champion and Olympic cyclist, says these are “the baddest racing glasses Oakley has made.”
